Auditorium HD (PS3) Review

E-mail Print PDF

Auditorium HD is a unique puzzle game where you transform light into sound. Auditorium was first created free for the web, then later for iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad by Cipher Games. Now with Zoo Games, it has been brought to the PSN. Auditorium HD features the original challenging puzzles with a little tweaking plus entirely new stages with new music making a total of 150 puzzles to solve.

The goal is to guide your beautiful flow of audio particles to various audio containers of the same color. Given enough light the containers will fill up and begin to sing together in harmony. At easier levels you only use one color to fill, as you advance you can see up to three colors in one container. There are two ways to guide your flow. Move control icons using the analog stick or directional buttons anywhere you need to place them. Also you can change the radius of the icons to influence the area. There is no real right or wrong way to solve each puzzle; in fact there is always many solutions.

Auditorium review for PS3

There are many different control icons. You have the simplest form of directional (up, down, left or right). 'Attract' pulls particles closer to the center of the icon making them swirl around in a circle. The 'Rabbit' will speed up things up, 'Repel' will reverse and 'Deflect' makes particles bounce off at different angles. There are also obstacles that may potentially make things harder on you. Example: 'Color Spheres' change the flow color upon contact, while with the 'Black Hole' you can just watch as the particles swirl into eternal darkness.

Visuals are amazing. Starting with one color of your flow then changing to different colors with the abstract look you have just created is very beautiful. Adding with the crafted orchestrated music you can just sit back, relax and enjoy the music playing while admiring the work that you just made. Being someone who doesn’t really care for puzzle games, I really enjoyed experiencing this unique game. I thought the $9.99 price was a little too much before I had even started to play. Now that I have experience this game it’s an acceptable price. There are also a total of 9 trophies you may collect if you like. The PlayStation Move is also compatible with Auditorium HD. If you are not sure this is for you, you can always try the original Auditorium for free on the web.
