One thing that's become quite clear over the last 72 hours is that while Sony fanboys are great gamers and valuable cogs in the gaming industry, they don't seem to have a general grasp of video game history. Fanboys are littering forums all over the place calling Microsoft copycats for the idea of a "slim".
Now for some reason, Sony fanboys seem to think that Sony invented the idea of shrinking or remodeling a console. It's very possible that this is due to the general age of gamers who frequent message boards. Most didn't start playing games heavily until the post Dreamcast-era. Of course most gamers are older, but they don't fill the inter-webs with ignorance.
So as a public service, we here at Go Fanboy just wanted to give a few examples to make it very clear that while Sony is a great company that makes very competitive hardware and software to help keep the games industry fresh, they came in late (just like Microsoft) and are copycats too. Below you'll find three separate examples ranging from Atari to Nintendo to Sega. All three made "Slims" of their own in excess of 25 years before the PS3 Slim.
Just read up on the industry before you start pointing fingers. You'd be surprised to find there were many others. All of these companies do similar things. It's very rare that any were the first.

Xbox fanboys are slating Sony for copying Natal. Could someone let THEM know that they weren't the first to invent motion-centric gaming (Wii, anyone?)?
I agree, 100%. Whatever next? Sony and Microsoft copied Commodore by making video games??
And thank you for another ignorant fanboy example.
The Wii didn't invent motion controls. The power glove had tilt, but even the Intellivision had conceptual tilt hardware IN THE 70's! Then sidewinder motion-sensing (Microsoft) and camera motion-detection (ezonic) came up in the 90's.
Look. The point is there's not a lot of innovation lately. The article isn't singling out Sony fanboys, but using them as a recent example. You only magnify the problem by spewing more ignorance in your post.
Interesting you have the same ip (80.2.227.65) as Steve123
Yeah, sorry for wanting to comment on this post from my friend's computer using his internet connection - I should have waited until I got home and done it from there. Silly me... oh, the conspiracy!
Um, I said motion-centric gaming, not motion controls... read, then comment.
Okay. Is there anyone who doesn't know this? By that logic the Playstation was a complete ripoff of the 3DO, Jaguar CD, Amiga 32CD and so on.
Why are so many people so H-bent on defending a company's product against another company's product? You bought a gaming system. Enjoy the games. That is the point. The author used the most recent example of fanboy ignorance. Every console and brand has ignorant fanboys. Just remember that ignorance can be rectified. Stupidity can't.
No that would be Wii, and they're right...
This guy is angry. Did the author say Nintendo innovated? I read it as everyone copies everyone. So many angry fanboys.
Oh, and PS Move is so obviously a Wii-mote ripoff, even though Sony fanboys vehemently deny it.
Errr...the chipset shown in the leaked motherboard pic was roadmapped out long before the PS3 Slim was announced. The Valhalla chips (combination of GPU and CPU on to a single chip) has been known for quite a while. It's only natural that the reduced inner-space of the 360 would result in a slightly redesigned Xbox 360.
Common sense really isn't common anymore -.-
I prefer PS3 over 360, but I don't want someone like you trying to be the voice of the PS3 fanboys. An English class would serve you well.
the 2 nes your showing is of different regions, the left American version, right is all other regions like japan and all other areas released in. DO some journalism for once, i didn't even have to look up the nes thing. Not even gonna bother looking up the other 2. But my guess is there were region releases too, and not actual slim models.
I am quoting the stupidest fanboy yet because he can't even use google. The top loading NES pictured is from North America! Wow!!! What an idiot. You told someone to do research and didn't even do it yourself. Thank you to the article's author for pulling these morons out of the woodwork.
This statement is so true. I'm 25 and have been playing since the Atari. I also don't waste my time in forums :)
Honestly, all this fanboyism crap is making me go back to my PC gaming roots.
Also, NES came out in 1985 in the US(and thus killed the Atari), so how have you been playing since the Atari when you weren't even alive during the Atari years?
Even if you started playing when you were the ripe age of 4, The Super NES came out in 1991(when you were 6) so you barely even got to play during the NES years.
Also, i would say PlayStation people would say that because Sony was the most recently, as all those systems above were like from 25 years ago, and Microsoft would love to have a successful system launch of a slim too. A slim for 360 can actually help them with improving on their faulty hardware, no disc tray, or annoying one at least, better fan, and other stuff too, also will be cheaper, and might actually make Microsoft money.
